Fortress Investment Group is an investment firm that manages up to $43 billion for more than 1750 investors. These invest in hedge funds, private equity firm and permanent capital vehicles (PVCs). Peter Briger is a Principal and a Co-chairman on the investment firm’s board.
He has been at Fortress since the year 2002 and has held a number of position at the at the firm. He started out as a member of Management Committee and has been Co-Chairman of the Board beginning August 2009. Currently, he holds the position of Principal, president and is the Head of Credit and Real Estate Business.
Peter Briger joined Fortress Investment Group after working at Goldman & Sachs for 15 years. He had gained a lot of success while at Goldmanś and he brought his experience to Fortress. While at Goldman & Sachs he had gained membership to Global Control and Compliance, Asian Management and Japan Executive committees. Briger’s responsibilities had been focused on Asia and because of this background Fortress Investment Group was acquired by SoftBank. The principals including Peter Briger see this as an opportunity to grow Fortress into the international market.
Operations at Fortress Investment Group are divided into Permanent Capital Vehicles, Credit and Private Equity divisions. Peter Briger is in charge of the Credit division having been key in its launching when he joined the investment firm in the year 2002. Mr. Briger focuses on distressed and undervalued assets that can be bought at lower prices due to economic or political upheavals that may occur and force their owners to sell. They then make a profit by selling the assets when the market or the political situations stabilize.
About Peter Briger
Briger attended Princeton University where he got his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then went on to get his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He is involved in the Princeton University Alumni Association and is working with other alumni to help young people at the university to realize the advantages of innovation and creativity.
Mr. Briger is involved in philanthropic activities and supports charities that strengthen communities. He is on the board of Tipping Point, a charity that supports low-income families in San Francisco.
