Bill and Melinda Gates Not Yet Satisfied with Education Efforts

Bill Gates is one of the richest people in the world. On top of that, he is also one of the world’s biggest philanthropist. The most notable donation from his organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has come in the form of billions of dollars pumped into the United States education system in recent years.

While this is a massive donation, the Gates don’t feel that it has had the impact that they hoped it would. This sentiment was something they expressed in their most recent annual letter. The couple was asked how they feel the money they have pumped into education over the last decade has had an impact.

Gates responded by saying that he felt it has had some impact, but not nearly enough, using measurements as college graduation rates as one of his indicators. It is important to note that these problems are only exacerbated when it comes to the more underprivileged students in the United States. Because of this, the couple has stated that they are going to focus future giving on this sector or the student population in the future. You may also be familiar with common core, which is something that the Gate’s Foundation was instrumental in helping implement nationwide.

Melinda Gates has said that their focus in the near future will be on helping to improve the nation’s middle and high schools. She noted that it is important to foster environments where educators can design curriculum strategies specific to their classrooms instead of a blanket strategy for the entire state. Much of the foundation’s efforts revolve around developing analytical methods for evaluating educators and mentorship programs to help ease the process of transitioning from middle to high school.
