He recently sat down with a Wall Street Journal reporter to discuss the importance of financial advisers talking in depth with their clients about Social Security and how it works into their retirement plan. In a survey he helped lead he found that 4 out of 5 clients would consider switching financial advisers if they were not being counseled on social security.
While some advisers are shying away from the subject due to its high level of complication, it is important to thoroughly understand all of the rules associated with it because it will make up such a large portion of most retirees income. If they are counseled poorly on when to begin receiving social security benefits, clients could end up missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next few decades.
